pls note that dr. werner tscherne in his book about the town of Deutsch-landsberg - austria explains the following: in 1153 the name was mentioned for the first time - Friedrich von Lonsperch, up until 1366 it was still Lonsperch. "lons" is attributed to the small river "lassnitz" and "perg" either "burg" or "berg". the name lassnitz has gone through various changes - lousnitza, lonsnitza & lonsitz. the name is slavic, possibly meaning "forest stream". since approx 1400 it became "landsperg" , however even in 1593 the name "lonsperch" was in use. then again the name changed to Lands"b"erg as the german influence grew. the Landsberg castle is situated in the town of Deutsch-landsberg in steirmark, austria and another Landsberg castle is situated in what is now slovenia apprx 100 km away, both have been occupied by the Landsperg knight families .
